A moment of clarity - A love that keeps you keeps you going
Wide awake
A date that made you wide awake
The city’s buzzing around you, lights blinking, cars passing. but none of it really matters right now.
They’re sitting across from you, lit up by the soft glow of a candle. Their eyes catch the light just right, and there’s something in them that hits deeper than anything they’ve said. The night’s warm, carrying a faint smell of flowers and the sound of a street performer playing a tune no one’s really listening to.
You want to say something, but you don’t. You’re just caught up in it, the way they run their fingers around the rim of their glass, how they laugh and tilt their head like they already know they’ve got your full attention.
Dinner ends, and now you’re walking side by side under the moon. Their hand brushes yours. At first it’s nothing, but then they actually take your hand. It feels easy, like you’ve done it a hundred times before. You keep walking, passing little cafés lit up in neon, other couples moving to music you can’t hear but kind of feel anyway.
Then they stop. Look at you like you’re the only thing that makes sense in this crazy world. And all the noise, the years of trying to figure things out, chasing people or things that never stuck, it just fades.
Because standing there with them, in that quiet little moment, something clicks. And you realize, you’ve never felt more awake in your life.

Verse 1:
Why don’t you stay a while
Or a moment
I’ve been chasing stars up in the sky
Turned around with no one but myself
And you were glowing,
Like a calm that eases all my storms
I don’t know what to say,
Chorus 1:
And I’m wide, wide awake,
Rivers flowing,
You’re the moon that washed it all away
Wide, wide awake,
Yeah you know it,
Now I’ll never ever be the same again,
Verse 2:And it’s been, so long,
The shadows finally disappear,
Now all I see is you so very clear,
Hold me close,
Ohh, your touch has got me feeling high,
I don’t want this to end,
Chorus 2+3:And I’m wide, wide awake,
Rivers flowing,
You’re the moon that washed it all away
Wide, wide awake,
And you know it,
Now I’ll never ever be the same again,

Early Demos & fun Facts
David wrote this song in 2017 and held onto it for a long time. He played the old demo to Hunter who had a few lyric and melody ideas but loved the vulnerability in the lyrics.
We tried a few different approaches and decided to leave most of the song empty except for a big rock band section at the end. David had a few song inspirations he brought to Hunter that included queen and Prince. Hunter brought his rock roots into the song and created a full band section in the bridge and last chorus.
Below are a few demos from our sessions.
