One of my voice memos is just a toaster……
Hey! David here.
I counted this week: there are 4,548 voice recordings on my phone. The oldest one is from October 29, 2015. 🤯
Most of them are me humming; In front of the piano at 1am when the whole city has finally gone quiet, on a long drive back, in the shower or even thirty seconds after I wake up, before I've said a word out loud to anybody. There's always a melody running in my head whether I'm humming along to it or not. At this point I've stopped questioning it.
One of them isn't humming, though. One of them is my toaster.
The old one, from the house in New York. When the toast popped it made this clap-slap sound, and I was completely convinced I could build a song around it. (I still am, honestly 😅)
So here's the thing I've been sitting with. I have 4,548 of those, and I haven't emailed you since November. I kept waiting until I had something big enough to be worth your inbox, and nine months went by while I waited. That's a pretty stupid way to run this.
So, back to Tuesdays. Small stuff, real stuff, whatever's actually going on.
One question before I go: what's the thing you keep starting and never finishing? Doesn't have to be music. I'm just curious what everyone's toaster is. Hit reply and tell me. No pressure to respond.
Thanks for still being here.
